You have been sent this link because you are one of the mothers who has accessed the Gisborne Lactation Consultant Service in the last year. We hope it was of some benefit to you and your baby.

With finances in our country being what they are, there is a chance that this service will no longer be funded by the Ministry of Health as of July 1st 2012.

This means that any mother/baby needing help from a Lactation Consultant in Gisborne will have to pay for it.

To try and stop this from happening, we are putting together some statistics of how many mothers/babies this service has helped. Stats however will not mean a thing without feedback from all the mothers we have seen……….That means YOU!

Our words are nothing without the back up & support of mothers who accessed the service.
So please, please spare a few minutes to fill in this anonymous questionnaire and hopefully we can continue helping more mothers/whanau & their babies to create a healthier Tairawhiti.

How safe are teething necklaces?

There has been a bit of concern in the media about how safe teething necklaces are. We at MamaPukeko know that the safety of your child is the most important thing, however we don’t think that this is a reason to not use teething necklaces as a way of helping relieve your babies pain when teething, or experiencing the other benefits amber jewellery can offer such as relieving eczema or arthritis.

Here we give a few tips to help keep your babies safe while using our amber teething necklaces.

– Care should be taken to ensure the necklace does not break & possibly result in your baby swallowing the beads. The beads that we sell are short in length and are individually knotted for added safety.

– Check the necklace regularly for signs of weakness or wear and tear at the knots.

– Keep the necklace tucked under clothes to prevent it getting caught on anything.

– Many people leave the necklace on while their children sleep. As a parent you should decide whether you are comfortable doing this. Tuck the necklace under clothes and ensure there is nothing in the bed it can catch on.

– Think about whether the necklace could catch on something if you child was to jump out of the bed or while running down the hallway.

Above all please use your intuition as a parent and use the necklace in the way you think best for your child.
